PALATKA, Fla. - The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team improves to 15-1 after winning two against St. Johns River Community College and Erskine College on Friday in Palatka, Fla.
The Mocs (15-1) fought against the Vikings earning a 4-1 victory before taking down the Flying Fleet with a 5-0 win.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 4, ST. JOHNS RIVER 1
The Mocs scored two-set wins on four of the five courts, beginning with
Emma Winford and
Ashli McKenny 21-10, 21-15 against SJRC's Herz and Caddell at court one. At court two,
Sarah Crocker and
Reagan Carlton dominated set one with a 21-16 score and set two 21-16 to win the flight. At No. 4,
Christina Ramazio and
Sydney Melcher won 21-11, 21-13 against Delaney and Thiem, and
Hailey Carefoot and
Jackie Schner 21-13, 21-10 score at #5.
The fourth court of
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti fell to the Vikings but not without forcing a third set battling the entire way with a 15-21, 21-10,12 -15 final. In exhibition play,
Madeline Sanders and
Chloe Maxwell beat Ridgeway and Garcia 21-15, 21-9.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 5, ERSKINE 0
In its second match of the day, the Mocs continued to stay hot with another win against the Flying Fleet. Winford and McKenny won 21-13, 21-16 for their second flight win of the day. Crocker and Carlton took down their opponent 21-11, 21-13 at court #2. St. Martin and Muti won in two sets by a 24-22, 21-10 score as Ramazio and Melcher won 21-14, 21-16 in the fourth court.
The final court scored was Carefoot and Schner battling it out in three sets with a final 17-21, 21-16, and 15-12 21-15, 21-11 to solidify the sweep of the day for the Moccasins. In the exhibition, Maxwell joined forces with
Emma Hufford as they fell in two close sets, 21-18, 21-18 to Erskine.
The Mocs return to action tomorrow morning with a tri-match at the
Judy and Joe P. Ruthven Beach Volleyball Courts as they host Stevenson University and Palm Beach State College. Florida Southern will honor three seniors before the first match tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the tri-matches to follow.
