MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team remains undefeated after earning two wins against NAIA Truett McConnell University and Catawba College on Friday afternoon at Briggs Beach Bash hosted by Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga.
The Mocs (10-0) handled its match against TMU (5-5) with a 5-0 win and followed up with a tougher 4-1 win as Catawba (3-5) took three matches to three sets.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 5, TRUETT MCCONNELL 0
The Mocs had two-set wins on all five of the courts scored, beginning with
Emma Winford and
Ashli McKenny 21-17, 22-20 against TMU's Bowen and Boland at court one. At court two,
Sarah Crocker and
Reagan Carlton dominated set one with a 21-12 score and set two 21-18 to win the flight. At No. 3,
Christina Ramazio and
Sydney Melcher won 21-18, 21-17 against Valmus and Roberts, and
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti 21-7, 21-19 score at #4.
The fifth court of
Hailey Carefoot and
Jackie Schner beat Franklin and McFarland 21-7, 21-19 in a great final court. In exhibition play,
Madeline Sanders and
Chloe Maxwell beat Godfrey and Williamson 21-15, 21-14.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 5, CATAWBA 1
In its second match of the day, the Mocs continued to stay hot with another win against the Indians. Winford and McKenny won 21-14, 18-21, and 15-9 for their second flight win of the day. Crocker and Carlton took their opponent to three sets falling to Knotts and Childress taking the first set, 13-21, 23-21, 15-12 at #2. St. Martin and Muti won in two sets by a 21-18, 21-17 score as Ramazio and Melcher won 23-21, 21-13 in the fourth court.
The final court scored was Carefoot and Schner with a 21-15, 21-11 win to complete a sweep of the day for the Moccasins.
The Mocs return to action tomorrow morning with a tri-match against the host Berry and then face Gaston to wrap up action in the Briggs Beach Bash. The first serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
