#18 Florida Southern Earns Road Victory at Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. – The 18th-ranked Florida Southern College men's lacrosse team took its show on the road Saturday as the Moccasins traveled to South Carolina to battle Anderson University, who received votes in the most recent USILA Top 20 Poll. FSC used a 4-0 first quarter to jump ahead and held onto the lead the rest of the way, taking a 14-11 victory over the Trojans.

The win improves FSC's record to 4-2 on the year including 3-1 in road contests while the loss drops Anderson to 2-4 overall.

Freshman Maddux Walton led the FSC attack as he scored a career-best five goals while scooping up a pair of ground balls. Senior Kaleb Cook, junior Brydon Robichaud and senior Brendan Glasser all contributed four points to the offensive effort. Cook and Robichaud each scored a goal and handed out three assists while Glasser scored two goals and dished out two assists. Sophomore Caiden Wiech was the only other Moccasin with more than one point as he finished with two goals and an assist for a three-point day.

Defensively, three Mocs earned caused turnovers including senior goalie Michael Simone, sophomore defender Joe Buxbaum and junior defensive midfielder Blake Terry. Sophomore Jacob Czyz led the way in ground balls with seven while freshman Will Rockwell collected four. Czyz went 11-of-23 (.478) at the face off to lead the Mocs.

Simone once again earned double-digit saves in the cage as he stopped 14 Trojan shots to earn his fourth victory of the season. He now has six games this season with double-digit saves surpassing his total of five from last season.

FSC opened the contest with a 4-0 first quarter which set the tone for the rest of the match. Sophomore Jack Epley opened up the scoring just over five minutes into the contest as he finished off an assist from Robichaud to put the Mocs up 1-0. Wiech tallied FSC's second goal of the afternoon just two and a half minutes later as he was assisted by Cook. After nearly five minutes without a goal, Walton and Flammenspeck scored back-to-back in the span of 27 seconds to put FSC up 4-0.

The Trojans responded in the second scoring three-straight tallies to cut the deficit to just one with 9:01 left in the second. Just under three minutes later, Glasser finished off an assist from Cook to put the Mocs up by two. The Trojans quickly answered just under 30 seconds later but the Mocs would tally the final two goals of the half to take a 7-4 lead into the break.

The second half saw the Trojans get to within two goals on three different occasions but the Mocs were able to control the contest while taking a 14-11 victory. Walton scored four of his five goals in the second half to lead the effort as he was the lone Moc to score more than one goal in the closing half.

FSC will now head over to Greenwood, S.C. where the Mocs will face 20th-ranked Lander on Monday, March 11 at 1 p.m.
