WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Representing the Florida Southern College men's golf team at the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship,
Tyler Mistretta carded an opening round 72 at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge.
Mistretta, a native of North Palm Beach, Fla., was in the early wave of players on the course and finished the day with a 72 (+1), on the par-71 7,419-yard Crooked Cat Course.Â
The redshirt sophomore opened play with a par before back-to-back bogey's pushed him to two-over thru three. An eagle on the par-5 544-yard fourth brought him back to even where he'd remain going into the ninth hole. Mistretta birdied the ninth to make the turn at one-under 34. Three straight bogey's moved him back to two-over but a par followed by a birdie brought him to one-over with four holes to play.Â
Mistretta is sitting tied for 43rd out of the 110 golfers that took the course, where his second round is slated for Wednesday, May 22nd at 1:11 p.m.Â
Cal State Monterey Bay's Tony Tao is leading the individual race for the championship by two strokes opening the week with an eight-under 63. Oklahoma Christian and Colorado Christian are tied for the team lead after one round, posting team scores of 277 (-7).
Round two of the 2024 National Championship starts
