Nyland Named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week by USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the M-F Athletic National Athletes of the Week, with Florida Southern College's Andrew Nyland named the NCAA DII winner.

Nyland, who was just named the Sunshine State Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, earned national recognition after setting a 32 second personal best and his first top-5 finish at the 8K at the Ed Holloway Classic on Friday night. The sophomore runner led the way for FSC as he placed third overall on the 8K course as he completed the distance in 25:40.6. He was the top finishing NCAA Division II student-athlete as runners from Florida Gulf Coast and Florida International took first and second, respectively. The Mocs defeated Division I programs FIU, Florida Atlantic, and Stetson with a second overall finish.

This is just the second time in program history for a Moccasin to be named a National Athlete of the Week for Cross Country, with Mason Jones selected as the NCAA DII National Athlete of the Week by USTFCCCA in the 2020 season on March 3, 2021, after winning the SSC individual championship.

The men's cross country will be looking to defend its conference championship with the 2025 SSC Championship taking place on Saturday, October 25, with a 7:45 a.m. start at Holloway Park. The women's cross country team will start at 8:15 a.m.
