LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team dropped the tri-match on Saturday falling to Palm Beach Atlantic 5-0 before rallying to a 3-2 loss against Saint Leo in Sunshine State Conference action.
The Moccasins (5-3, 0-3 SSC) lost the first match of the day by a 5-0 score, in a Sunshine State Conference rematch. The Mocs fell in straight sets on courts one through four except on the fifth court where
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti forced three sets, taking the first one 21-14 before falling 21-13 and 15-11.
In the second match for FSC, they faced the Lions for the first time this season as two flights forced a third set the top flight of
Emma Winford and
Ashli McKenny falling 17-21, 21-18, 16-14 fighting to the finish. Flight two also forced a three-set rally as
Sydney Melcher and
Nicole Eden fell in set one 19-21 and fought to a 26-24 win in the second set but dropped the third 15-7 to make it 0-2 for FSC.
The third flight of
Hailey Carefoot and
Reagan Carlton fell in straight sets 21-16, 22-20, before the Mocs flight four and five gave FSC the two wins.
Isabella Muti and
Zoe Lowe won by two in both their sets, 21-19 and 22-20 while
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti dominated the fifth court with a 21-6, 21-11 win.
The Mocs will stay at home to host Barry University and State College of Florida on Saturday, March 1, set for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. start at the Judy and Joe P. Ruthven Beach Volleyball Courts.
