WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team split the weekend tri-match as the Moccasins (3-1) opened up the road match with a 5-0 sweep over Palm Beach State before falling in the first Sunshine State Conference match 1-4 against Palm Beach Atlantic.
The number one flight was the only pair to go undefeated on the day, as the duo of
Emma Winford and
Ashli McKenny defeated Palm Beach State College 21-17, 21-10 before taking down the Sailfish's top flight 21-19, 21-19.
In the opening match, the Mocs took wins in all flights as flight two of
Hailey Carefoot and
Reagan Carlton won 21-13 and 21-16. The #3 flight of
Sydney Melcher and
Nicole Eden pushed to a 21-16 win before rallying it in the final set, 23-21.
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti also won their flight 21-19, 21-11, before
Isabella Muti and
Zoe Lowe had the final win 21-16, 21-5 against Palm Beach State.
Despite the outcome, Florida Southern rallied in the second game against PBA as the only win went to the top flight. The first set for the #2 flight Carefoot and Carlton rallied for a two-point win, pushing it to a 22-20, before falling in the second set 21-15. Melcher and Eden also had a close match, falling 21-18 and 21-10, as did St. Martin and Muti in the fourth flight, 21-11, 21-18. The toughest fight of the match was at the fifth flight as Muti and Lowe forced three sets falling in the third, 13-21, 21-16, 6-15.
Florida Southern returns home to host St. John's River and Ave Maria in a tri-match on Feb. 15. The first serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. in game one and 2 p.m. in game two.
