LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team swept the tri-match on Saturday, defeating Barry University 4-1 before dominating action against State College of Florida with a 5-0 win on the Judy and Joe P. Ruthven Beach Volleyball Courts.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 4, BARRY 1
Sydney Melcher and
Nicole Eden, in the two pairs, along with
Isabella Muti and
Zoe Lowe in the four pairs, got the morning going with straight set wins. Melcher and Eden won 21-14, 24-22, followed by a 21-15, 21-7 win for Lowe and Muti.
The next wins on the day were in pairs three and five as
Hailey Carefoot and
Reagan Carlton dominated the first set 21-9 and finished with a 21-15 set against the Bucs. Next,
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti put up a 21-16, 21-7 win against their Barry opponent.
With the Mocs earning the win, 4-0, we looked to the top flight as
Emma Winford and Ashli Mckenny fell in three sets 21-23, 21-18, 11-15.
In the exhibition match, Florida Southern's
Aubrey Wieser and
Sarah Idler won in straight sets, defeating their opponent 21-12, 21-15.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 5, STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 0
The Mocs never let up as they opened action against the Manatees with a 21-13, 21-8-win fours pairing as Muti and Lowe opened with a 1-0 lead. The duo of Melcher and Eden won set one 21-15 and finished with a 21-18 win in the second set. The third team to earn the early 3-0 win for the Mocs was at the third court as Carefoot and Carlton won in straight sets 21-10, 21-14.
The Mocs won the remaining two matches to seal the 5-0 in, but not without a fight from State College of Florida as FSC won on court five 21-19, 21-16 with St. Martin and Muti. But the dynamic duo of Winford and McKenny forced a third set, finishing victorious in this win with a 17-21, 21-17, 15-8 win.
In the exhibition match, Florida Southern's
Madeline Sanders and
Chloe Maxwell teamed up to defeat the Manatees in straight sets, 21-17, 21-17.
Florida Southern hits the road to St. Petersburg, facing Saint Leo and Eckerd in a midweek tri-match in Sunshine State Conference action. The first service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
