ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team defeated Saint Leo University to earn the first win against the Lions since starting the season.
After falling in the past two meetings between the Lions, the Moccasins defeated Saint Leo 3-2 today, flipping the score in the previous two meetings at the Triton Invite in St. Petersburg hosted by Eckerd College on Friday morning.
Sydney Melcher and
Nicole Eden joined forces at the No. 2 flight, forcing an extra set after winning the first one to emerge victorious, 21-19, 15-21, 16-14.
At flight No.4,
Isabella Muti and
Zoe Lowe earned a two-set win to make it 2-0 with 21-17 in both sets. The Lions tied the game 2-2, as the No.1 court,
Emma Winford and
Ashli McKenny, fell 21-17, 21-16, along with the No.5 court of
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti falling 21-16, 21-18.
With the match tied, all eyes were on court No.3 as
Hailey Carefoot and
Reagan Carlton dominated the first set 21-10 and rallied to win the second set 25-23 to give the Mocs a 3-2 win to open the weekend.
Florida Southern returns to action tomorrow morning at the Triton Invite as they face Liberty and Eckerd in a tri-match. First serve is scheduled at 10 a.m.
