ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team defeated Liberty University 5-0 on Saturday morning and Eckerd College 3-2 on Saturday evening to go undefeated on the weekend.
The Moccasins (13-5) got off to an early start defeating the Eagles on all courts before rallying against the Tritons (2-10) to end the afternoon.
At court two,
Sydney Melcher and
Nicole Eden earned the first win with a 21-13 win in both sets before
Isabella Muti and
Zoe Lowe gave the Mocs a 2-0 lead at court four with a 21-15, 22-20 final.
On the odd courts, Mocs earned the first win at court three with
Hailey Carefoot and
Reagan Carlton big first set 21-9, and captured the win for FSC with a 21-16 win in set two. The top flight of
Emma Winford and
Ashli McKenny made it 4-0 at court one winning over Liberty 21-19, 21-10.
FSC swept the day on all courts except the five pairs as
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti won in three sets 21-15, 16-21,15-12 being the final court to finish.
The Moccasins took a long break and went on to defeat Eckerd 3-2 in the final game of the Triton Invite as courts three through five earned the three wins.
The pair of Muti and Lowe took a win at court three with a 22-20, 21-13 two set win. The next win for FSC was on court four as Carefoot and Carton won 21-15 and 21-19. The final win was on court five as St. Martin and Muti won in three sets, 21-16, 16-21, 15-7.
Florida Southern returns to action tomorrow morning as they return home to host Stevenson University in a tri-match. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
