LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team won the dual against Stevenson University 4-1 and 5-0 on Sunday morning to go undefeated on the weekend.
The Moccasins (15-5) got off to an early start, defeating the Mustangs (3-2) on all but one court at the Judy and Joe P. Ruthven Beach Volleyball Courts.
In the first tri-match,
Hailey Carefoot and
Reagan Carlton opened action with a win in the four pairs, taking down Stevenson's number four duo with a 21-11, 21-8 final. In the middle court with partners
Sydney Melcher and
Nicole Eden, the No.2 pair fell to the Mustangs in two close sets, 21-18, 22-20, to make it 1-1.
The Moccasins went on to sweep the rest of the courts with No.3 pair of
Isabella Muti and
Zoe Lowe winning 21-19 and 21-14 to make it 2-1. The top flight,
Emma Winford and
Ashli McKenny earned the win taking down the Mustangs top pair with a 21-14, 21-18, before a three-set win at court five made it 4-1 with
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti fell in the opening set 21-18 but rallied back to win the next two, 21-14, 16-14.
Florida Southern took advantage of the early win and forced straight set wins on all five courts as Carefoot and Carlton earned the first win at the No.4 flight, winning 21-16, 21-14. Melcher and Eden bounced back from the morning match to give FSC a 2-0 lead, winning 26-24 in both sets at court two.
At court three, Muti and Lowe collected the third win for the Mocs as the pair won 21-19, 21-14 to make it 3-0. The final two courts finished with a 21-12, 21-13 win at court five from St. Martin and Muti, and court one completed the sweep winning 21-17, 21-11, allowing the Mocs to go undefeated on a busy weekend.
Florida Southern returns to action Wednesday, March 16, as they travel to Fort Myers, Fla., to compete in a tri-match. The Moccasins are scheduled to face Palm Beach Atlantic and end the dual with a match against DI Florida Gulf Coast. The first serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
