CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The third-ranked Florida Southern women's lacrosse team put the Lee Flames to rest with a 17-5 road win Thursday night at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.

Florida Southern (5-0) had a strong open with a six-goal first quarter before posting eight goals in the second for a 14-3 lead at the half. The Moccasins tacked on one in the third and two in the fourth as the Flames added two in the final period for a 17-5 final. Florida Southern placed 21 of 26 shots on goal while winning 13 draw controls and going a perfect 15-for-15 in clears.

Keeping the same spread offense, 13 different Mocs scored in the game, led by
Giana Murphy who notched a hat trick while adding one assist for four points in the game.
Abby McFerren tied
Hannah Hale in points with three as McFerren had one goal and dished out two assists to Hale's two goals and one assist.

Maria Reeves closed the book on the multi-goal scorers with a pair while
Baillie Pinder,
Kolby Cohen,
Danielle Mojsej,
Hanna Watson,
Maycie Neubauer,
Kassidy Miller,
Charlie Laye,
Hannah Guerin, and
Sam Wehr all scored a goal in the road win.

Cohen, Guerin and
Peyton Sutton tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with two as Laye and
Julia Lucas joined the trio with a pair of groundballs in the cold weather. Sutton had a team-best three draw controls over
Audrey Cannelli's two.

Rylie Rittberg earned her fifth win of the season playing the opening 30 minutes before turning it over to
Rebekah Bargeron who played nearly the final 30 but the Mocs saw
Chloe Webber step in for the final minute and make one save. Rittberg made one save in the game while Bargeron made four in the second half.

Lee (1-5) had five different players notch goals in the loss in Hanna Vecsey, Noelle Harrington, Callie Curtis, Taylor McGovern, and Katelynn Sweeny. Vecsey had two assists to lead the team in points (3). The Flames saw two goalies make an appearance while both Savannah Weisman and Haley Lambeth each made two saves with Weisman taking the decision in the contest.

Florida Southern's six goal opening frame started off with a
Hannah Hale to
Charlie Laye connection on the fast break. Hale then converted a pass from
Abby McFerren for a quick 2-0 lead before
Maria Reeves,
Kassidy Miller, McFerren, and
Giana Murphy all scored in the first quarter.

Hale and
Danielle Mojsej started the eight-goal second quarter for the Mocs before Lee scored back-to-back goals on false starts on the draw to cut it to 8-2. Florida Southern would then score five straight to get the running clock as
Kolby Cohen,
Hanna Watson,
Hannah Guerin, Reeves, and Murphy all found the back of the net. The Flames would tack on another, but Murphy scored her third of the game 48 seconds before halftime.

Baillie Pinder scored the lone goal in the third quarter with 43 seconds left to give Florida Southern the 15-3 lead.

Lee scored the first two goals in the final frame but
Sam Wehr and
Maycie Neubauer made the final two goals of the game with five minutes to play, 17-5 FSC.

No. 3 Florida Southern will remain on its Spring Break trip as the Moccasins travel to Greenwood, S.C. to take on the Bearcats of (RV) Lander University Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m. Florida Southern will next play at home on Tuesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. against #7 / #12 Indianapolis.
