Beach Volleyball Falls to Mavericks and Lions on Day Two of the AVCA Championships

GULF SHORES, ALA. - The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team continued action at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships with two more matches Friday in Gulf Shores, Ala.  

The Moccasins (21-12), split day one defeating Southwest Baptist 3-0 and falling 3-0 to Texas A&M University-Kingsville to move into the Challenge Round. FSC dropped the first match falling to Colorado Mesa University (21-9) and battled it out in the final match falling 3-2 to Vanguard (11-16) 3-2.

The morning opened with a 4-0 loss as the Mocs rallied with the Mavericks with three of the five courts forcing three sets. Only three wins were needed to clinch but FSC and CMU were able to finish four as Ashli McKenny and Emma Winford's did not count but fell in three sets, 21-18, 19-21, 15-10. The first to finish was the five pairs as Mary Olivia Muti and Hayley St. Martin fell 21-19, 21-16 followed by Nicole Eden and Sydney Melcher falling 21-18, 21-13 at court two. At court three Reagan Carlton and Zoe Lowe  finished the third match falling 21-15, 17-21, 15-11 also forcing a third set. The match that was not able to finish was Hailey Carefoot and Isabella Muti who rallied in the third set after splitting the first two falling in set on 22-20 and winning set tow 21-18. 

FLORIDA SOUTHERN 2, VANGUARD 3
A tough opponent for the Mocs as they fell 3-2 against the Lions in the final match of the challenge. Florida Southern battled it out on all courts as court one of McKenny and Wifnord fell 21-16, 25-23 followed by court two of Eden and Melcher forcing three sets winning the second set 21-15, 17-21, 15-13. FSC won the third court with Carlton and Lowe winning in three sets 21-16, 18-21, 15-7. Court four went to Vanguard as Carefoot and Muti fell 24-22, 21-18. The final win for the Mocs was on the final court with Muti and St. Martin winning in two sets 21-16, 21-11.

The Mocs will conclude the 2025 season tomorrow at the AVCA Small College Championships tomorrow as they wait for matches to conclude today to determine the final day of competition.
