Beach Volleyball Goes Undefeated in Final Day of AVCA Small College Championships; Wins Silver Bracket Championship

GULF SHORES, ALA. - The Florida Southern College beach volleyball team concluded action at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships, going undefeated on Saturday to win the Silver Bracket Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala.  

The Moccasins (24-13) split day one defeating Southwest Baptist 3-0 and falling 3-0 to Texas A&M University-Kingsville to move into the Challenge Round. FSC dropped both matches on Friday to Colorado Mesa University before battling it out in the final match falling 3-2 to Vanguard. On the final day, FSC went 3-0, defeating Saint Leo, Carson-Newman, and Vanguard to win the Silver Bracket Championship. 

FLORIDA SOUTHERN 3, SAINT LEO 1
The morning opened with a familiar opponent as the Mocs faced the Lions for the third time this season winning 3-1 to advance to the semifinal in the silver bracket. Helping FSC secure the win was pair three as Reagan Carlton and Zoe Lowe won 21-15, 21-10. Saint Leo took the win for the five pairs as Mary Olivia Muti and Hayley St. Martin fell 21-14, 21-12. The next wins sealed the Mocs spot to send Saint Leo home as pair four of Hailey Carefoot and Isabella Muti won in three sets 10-21, 23-21, 15-11, followed by pair one of Ashli McKenny and Emma Winford also winning in three sets 13-21, 21-17, 15-10. 

FLORIDA SOUTHERN 3,  CARSON-NEWMAN 1
The Mocs continued its success from the early morning match as they defeated Carson-Newman to move into the Championship game of the silver bracket. To get there the Mocs received wins at court one with McKenny and Winford winning in two sets 21-17, 21-18. At the number two pairs Eden and Melcher fell 21-19, 22-20 but courts three and five solidified the wins at their respected courts. Pair 3 of Carlton and Lowe won 21-16, 21-11, while Mary Olivia Muti and Hayley St. Martin won 24-22, 21-16 to go 3-1 against the Eagles.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN 3, VANGUARD 0

The Mocs finished the AVCA Small College Championship with a 3-0 win over Vanguard in three straight courts. Mocs took on the Lions as part of yesterday's matches, with a close 3-2 loss. Today, however, FSC had a big day leading with McKenny and Winford in a two-set win 21-19, 21-15 at the first court. Pair two consisted of Eden and Melcher, also wining in two sets, 21-13, 21-18. The fifth pair of Muti and St. Martin wrapped up the competition with a 21-11, 21-16 win to seal an FSC 3-0 shutout and the Silver Bracket Championship.

 

Florida Southern went 3-0 on the day to survive and advance to the Silver Bracket Championship, later beating Vanguard 3-0 to be crowned the bracket's champion. FSC finished the AVCA Small College Championship with a 4-3 overall record.
