ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida Southern College's Palmer Haynes was named the Sunshine State Conference Men's Golfer of the Week after capturing the individual title at the Golfweek Fripp Island Invitational and leading the Moccasins to the team championship.
Haynes posted rounds of 69, 70 and 68 for a 9-under total of 207 at Fripp Island Ocean Point in Beaufort, S.C., earning a two-stroke victory over teammate Jack VanderSchuur. His performance helped Florida Southern finish at 19-under 845, eight strokes ahead of runner-up Columbus State.
Haynes opened the tournament with a 3-under 69, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole, before adding a 2-under 70 to enter Tuesday's final round in second place, three strokes off the lead.
He closed with a 4-under 68 to claim the title, overcoming a 2-over front nine with a bogey-free, 6-under 30 on the back nine. Haynes birdied four consecutive holes from Nos. 11-14 before adding birdies on Nos. 17 and 18. He recorded eight birdies in the final round and shot under par in all three rounds.
Haynes finished ahead of 9 golfers ranked among last week's Clippd's NCAA Division II national top 25, including four top-10 players. That group included No. 1 VanderSchuur, No. 7 Colton Swartz, No. 8 Henry Drake of Lincoln Memorial and No. 10 Ashton Eubanks of North Georgia.
The Mocs return to action in the spring when Florida Southern hosts the Matlock Collegiate Classic on Feb. 8-9, 2027 at the Lone Palm Golf Club.
