LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College beach volleyball (7-4) experienced a mix of results at the Judy and Joe P. Ruthven Beach Volleyball Courts, first securing a decisive 5-0 victory over Emmanuel College (Ga.) (7-8) and then narrowly falling to Berry College (11-3) with a final score of 2-3.
FRORIDA SOUTHERN 5, EMMANUEL 0
In the match against Emmanuel, the Moccasins' pairs swept all five matches to secure the win. In the No. 2 flight,
Hailey Carefoot and
Sarah Idler put a point on the board for the Mocs with a commanding performance, defeating Alondra Rios and Maryn Barrow in straight sets, 21-10, 21-7. This win set the tone for the rest of the matches as Florida Southern looked to secure the dual.
On Court 4,
Ella Pringle and
Lauren Passaglia added another point for the home team by taking down Aaliyah Lobendahn and Brooke Lee, 21-8, 21-17. Their win was followed by the 5s, where
Lily Schlageter and
Victoria Rushing secured a victory over Emberlynn Lee and MattiGrace Farrow, 21-8, 21-17. The No. 3 flight saw
Isabella Muti and
Mary Olivia Muti deliver a straight-sets win against Kaleigh Morawietz and MaisyBeth Farrow, 21-16, 21-11. Finally, at the top flight,
Sydney Melcher and
Ryla Bryant rounded out the scoring with a decisive victory over Leah Van Wyngarden and Faith Kelly, 21-16, 21-13.
Madden Bingham and
Allison Thomas also won their exhibition match.Â
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 2, BERRY 3
In their subsequent match against Berry, Florida Southern secured victories in the No. 2 and No. 5 matches, but fell short overall. In the No. 2 spot, Florida Southern's Carefoot and Idler put a point on the board with a straight-sets victory over Berry's Kara Schmit and Madie Whitehead, 21-18, 21-18, providing early momentum for the home team.
The 4s witnessed a tightly contested three-set battle where Pringle and Passaglia faced Kat Kelyman and Sabine Rudolph from Berry. Despite taking the second set 21-17, Pringle and Passaglia fell short in the deciding third set, dropping it 16-14. On Court 5, Schlageter and Rushing of FSC added another point with a convincing straight-sets win against Riley Kessler and Maddi Hoffman from Berry, securing both sets 21-14, 21-16. In the top flight, Melcher and Bryant were unable to overcome Berry's Becky Blaydes and Keira Kruk, as the visiting pair claimed the match in straight sets, 21-18, 21-18.
