LAKELAND, Fla. — #2/#4 Florida Southern (5-1) put on a masterclass against #15/#17 Regis University (Colo.) (1-2) with a commanding 17-5 triumph on Monday at Berend Field. The Moccasins' offense dazzled with 11 unassisted goals, underscoring their dominance.
Louise Aloi was a standout for the Mocs with a team-leading three goals and ten shots, five of which were on target.
Sabrina Diaz scored a career-high two goals on two shots in her first career start.Â
Kolby Cohen set a new career-high with 12 draw controls. She also one goal and two assists, including the game-winning point.
Danielle Mojsej's two goals and two assists rounded out a stellar team performance. 11 different goal scorers contributed for a well-rounded offensive game, while
Annesley Flint led the defense by thwarting six of 11 shots and picked up four groundballs to earn the win.
The Mocs hit the ground running, with
Lindsey Tolliver finding the back of the net just 26 seconds into the first quarter. Regis answered back with Lexie Springman leveling the score at 13:30 with a free position goal. But Florida Southern was unfazed, regaining momentum quickly.
Jenna Vetter's free position goal at 11:34 pushed the lead to 2-1. By the end of the first quarter, thanks to goals from Aloi, Mojsej, Diaz, and a late free-position shot by Cohen, the Mocs were cruising at 7-1.
In the second quarter, Florida Southern continued their relentless attack, extending the lead to 13-2. Aloi kicked things off with a goal at 12:39, assisted by Vetter, and
Kassidy Miller's free-position goal at 9:55 kept the pressure on Regis. Despite a lone goal from Regis' Evie Tanella, FSC's scoring spree continued with contributions from
Hanna Watson,
Baillie Pinder, and Tolliver, who netted another from a free position at 1:20. Aloi wrapped up the quarter with her second goal at 00:12.
Regis opened the third quarter with Maggie Schipfer scoring at 6:54, her third of the season. Florida Southern answered with Diaz scoring at 5:04, assisted by Cohen. Although Regis managed another goal from Lauren Sheets at 3:01, the Mocs ended the quarter firmly in control at 14-4.
The final quarter saw Florida Southern solidifying their lead. Mojsej scored her fourth goal of the season at 10:29, followed by
Kelsey Bennett's strike at 5:42, assisted by Mojsej.
Isabella Bright added her first career goal at 3:17 with an assist from Watson. Even a late goal by the Rangers' Karis Wilson didn't shake the Mocs' grip on the game, which ended in a decisive 17-5 victory.
Looking ahead, Florida Southern will host Lander University for Senior Day on Thursday, March 5 at Berend Field. The action kicks off at 11 a.m.
