DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The #2/#2 Florida Southern women's lacrosse team (11-1, 3-0 SSC) powered their way to a commanding 10-5 triumph over #5/#6 Embry-Riddle (9-2, 2-1 SSC) on Wednesday at the ERAU Lacrosse Field. The Moccasins' offense showcased their strength with two player-up goals, while their defense stifled Embry-Riddle, keeping them scoreless in three out of four quarters.
Jenna Vetter led with three goals on nine shots, including a key free-position goal.
Riley Rivera added two goals and two assists, converting both free-position chances.
Grace Curtin netted two goals alongside an assist, and
Rebekah Bargeron anchored the defense with seven saves on 15 shots.
The Moccasins wasted no time establishing dominance in the first quarter.
Hanna Watson opened the scoring at 12:37 with an assist from
Riley Rivera. Vetter then converted a free-position shot at 8:49, strengthening the lead. Curtin followed up at 4:09 with another Rivera-assisted goal. Rivera herself found the net from a free-position shot at 2:17, wrapping up the quarter with a 4-0 lead. Bargeron and the Mocs' defense Embry-Riddle scoreless in the opening frame.
The Eagles responded early in the second quarter; Ava Rogala scored at 14:32 and Jordan Davis followed at 13:26, both assisted by Natalie Jansky. Ashley Albert then found the net at 11:14. Not backing down, Florida Southern's
Kelsey Bennett scored at 8:31 with an assist from Curtin. Curtin then capitalized during a player-up situation, assisted by Watson, at 1:49. Despite a tough quarter, the Moccasins held a narrow 6-5 lead at halftime.
Florida Southern reclaimed their rhythm in the third quarter. Vetter scored at 13:54, and Rivera capitalized on another player-up opportunity, pushing the lead to 8-5. Thanks to key saves by Bargeron, including a critical stop against Jordan Davis, Embry-Riddle couldn't find the back of the net.
The final quarter solidified Florida Southern's victory.
Danielle Mojsej scored at 10:41, assisted by
Baillie Pinder, and Vetter added another at 8:03. Bargeron's crucial saves, including one against Eliana Enners' free-position shot, ensured Embry-Riddle remained scoreless. The Moccasins clinched the win with a 10–5 final score, their defense unyielding and their offense unstoppable.
Florida Southern kept Embry-Riddle scoreless in the second half for the first time since April 23, 2022 against Palm Beach Atlantic, where the Mocs had a second-half shutout.
Next up, the Moccasins face the University of Tampa on Saturday, April 4, at 1 p.m. at Berend Field in Lakeland.
