ORLANDO, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week have been announced, with Florida Southern College's
Sachem Ramos named Baseball Pitcher of the Week,
Elijah Terry named Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week,
Brayden Cannelli named Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week,
Mario Garoz named Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, and
Chris Colavita named Men's Track Distance Runner of the Week. This is the third weekly award for both Ramos and Garoz in their careers, and the first of Terry's, Cannelli's and Colavita's careers.
Ramos had a big outing for FSC baseball in a 9-1 road win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday night. The star righty threw six innings, striking out 12 of the 25 batters he faced. Ramos only allowed one run on six hits in that outing for his fifth win on the season.
Terry led FSC men's lacrosse with four goals and an assist as FSC defeated Embry-Riddle 11-10 in the regular season finale to secure the No. 4 seed and home field advantage in the opening round of the 2026 SSC Championship. Terry opened the scoring for FSC as he scored an unassisted goal with 8:44 left in the first to break the 0-0 stalemate. He went on to score FSC's second goal as well which broke a 1-1 tie late in the first. He completed a hat trick with 5:57 left in the second which gave FSC a 5-2 lead. His lone assist came in the fourth as he assisted classmate
Angus Walko's goal with 10:43 left in the contest which gave FSC a 9-6 advantage. His final contribution came with 1:52 left as he scored the game-winning goal unassisted. The four goals are a new career-high for the rookie as are the five points. He also took a career-high 10 shots in the victory including eight on goal.
Cannelli anchored the Florida Southern women's lacrosse defense, helping the #2/#2 Mocs close out the regular season with another 2-0 week in SSC play. The Mocs went undefeated in their conference slate and won the SSC Regular Season title for the ninth time. The Mocs opened the week with a 14-8 victory over #13 Florida Tech before a 16-4 victory over PBA in back-to-back days. Cannelli grabbed nine draw controls, picked up seven ground balls, and caused four turnovers on the week. Her five draw controls against Florida Tech were a season-high, as well as season-high's against PBA with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Garoz led the No. 13 FSC men's tennis team to a 2-0 week as FSC locked in the No. 4 seed in the SSC tournament. Garoz went undefeated in both singles and doubles, beginning with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Eckerd at the #1 court singles. For doubles, the senior won 6-2, paired with
Edoardo Melindo at the #3 court. Against No. 16 Embry-Riddle, Garoz beat the No. 18 singles player, Marc Mail, by a 6-4, 6-2 score at the #1 court. Again paired with Melindo, Garoz helped to a 6-2 #3 court doubles win against the Eagles. As a doubles pairing, Melindo and Garoz ranked No. 25 by the end of the week, with Garoz No. 9 in singles.
Colavita was the lone member of the Florida Southern College men's track team in action Friday as he competed in the 5,000m at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. The Washington Township, N.J. native tied
Mason Jones' (2018-22) school record time of 14:19.08 set back in 2022 in Tampa, Fla. The senior took 60th overall in his group while completing the distance in the school record tying time of 14:19.08.
