Biography
One of four seniors on this year’s team after transferring to Florida Southern as a junior from the University of Bridgeport, where he won a total of eight All-American awards in two years (four individual and four relay) under coaches Brad Flood and Sean Raffile… Helped the Purple Knights finish eighth at the Division II National Finals as a sophomore and fifth as a freshman… Set the Bridgeport school record in the 200-butterfly.
As a junior (2015-16)… First Team All-Sunshine State Conference… Named as an alternate to the NCAA Division II National Finals where he was eligible to compete in the 200-butterfly and both the 200 and 400-IM… Finished third at the SSC Championships in the 200-IM, and was also third in the 200-butterfly… Competed in eight meets during the season… Though he was primarily a butterfly and individual medley swimmer, did compete twice in the 200-freestyle and once in each of the breaststroke events… Had two individual wins, both in the 200-butterfly… Part of two relay wins, one in the 800-freestyle at the Tampa Spartan Invitational, and the other in the 400-freestyle vs. Emory… #2 on the Florida Southern times list in the 200-butterfly, 200-IM, and 400 IM and had NCAA provisional qualifying times in all three of those events.
As a sophomore (2014-15)… All-American in the 200-freestyle relay (5th place) and 400-freestyle relay (5th place)… Honorable Mention All-American in the 200-IM (11th place), 400-IM (12th place), 200-butterfly (10th place), and 800-freestyle relay (13th place)… Won the Metropolitan Conference Championship in the 200-butterfly and helped the 200-freestyle relay team win a conference too… Runner-up in the 200-IM… Posted two individual wins in the 400-IM… Also had two individual wins in the 200-freestyle, with one of those coming in a dual meet at Nova Southeastern… Ranked #10 on the Division II national times list in the 200-butterfly.
As a freshman (2013-14)… All-American in the 200-butterfly (2nd place)… Honorable Mention All-American in the 800-freestyle relay (12th place)… Finished as conference runner-up in the 400-IM and placed third in the 200-butterfly.
In high school… 2013 graduate of IES Leopoldo Alas Clarín… Competed for Club Natacion Ciudad de Oviedo from 2001-2014 where he was coached by Pablo Hurle Mosqueira… Also competed with Club Natacion Santa Olaya from 2014-15 where he was coached by Jose Rivera-Lamigueiro… Personal… Son of Jose Antonio Nunez-Lopez and Isidora Alvarez-Ordas… Has one sister (Paula)… Lists Real Madrid as his favorite pro sports team… Born February 28, 1995… Major: Exercise Science.
