LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College held its annual Athletic Academic Awards Banquet on Monday evening as it recognized its top student-athletes in an event held at Streamline Sale Arena at Jenkins Field House. More than 500 student-athletes, coaches, staff, and invited guests were in attendance.
MELBOURNE, FL – For the second year in a row, Florida Southern’s Matthew Holmes has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer-of-the-Year. Voting on the league’s top individual awards was conducted by SSC coaches following the conclusion of the NCAA National Championships, with the All-SSC Team previously announced on March 8.

Dyck and Lopez are All-Americans Again in 200-Backstroke as NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships Draw to a Close
INDIANAPOLIS – For the second year in a row, sophomore backstroke swimmers Brandon Dyck and Matias Lopez earned All-American awards in the 200-backstroke, and Matthew Holmes picked up another individual All-American award too on the final day of the 2019 NCAA Division II National Swimming & Diving Championships. The Moccasins then closed things out with senior Nico Campbell, junior Talor Hamilton, sophomore Carlos Bernotti and Holmes collecting relay All-American awards in the 400-freestyle event.

INDIANAPOLIS – Florida Southern ended day three of the NCAA Division II National Swimming & Diving Championships with its second silver medal of the meet and third medal overall as the Moccasins’ finished runner-up in the 800-freestyle relay for the second year in a row.
Holmes Successfully Defends National Title in 400-IM at NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships
INDIANAPOLIS – For the second year in a row, Matthew Holmes will be bringing home an individual national championship for the Florida Southern men’s swimming program. The senior from Rockledge, Florida successfully defended his title in the 400-individual medley by finishing more than two seconds ahead of his closest pursuer to claim his second medal of the meet.
First FSC Medal Goes to Holmes with Runner-Up Finish in 200-IM at NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships
INDIANAPOLIS – The Florida Southern men’s swimming team had its first medalist at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Swimming & Diving Championships when senior Matthew Holmes finished second in the 200-individual medley. It marks the second year in a row Holmes has medaled in the 200-IM following a bronze in 2018, and along with fellow IM swimmer sophomore Matias Lopez, he helped put the Moccasins in 12th place in the team standings at the end of day one.
INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division II National Swimming and Diving Championships begin on Wednesday at the IUPUI Natatorium where Florida Southern will be represented by 16 of its best swimmers under first-year head coach Andy Robins. Ten men and six women are on the roster for the trip to Indianapolis, which is hosting the championships for the third time in the last five years, as the Moccasins look to add to their list of impressive accomplishments over the last 10 years. During that time the Mocs have brought home 15 gold medals between the men and women, with at least one individual or relay national champion in seven of the last nine years.
MELBOURNE, FL – Six members of the Florida Southern men’s swimming team have been named All-Sunshine State Conference in a vote of league coaches. Among them are a league-high four swimmers on the All-SSC First Team: seniors Matthew Holmes and Luka Planinc, and sophomores Matias Lopez and Brandon Dyck. Earning Second Team All-SSC honors is freshman Cole Smith, and senior Nico Campbell was an honorable mention selection.

All six of those selections took part in last year’s national finals, and all of them brought home at least one individual All-American award.
