Biography

One of Florida Southern’s seven returning All-Americans, and the team’s only senior… Won both of her All-American awards as a sophomore… School record-holder in the 200-butterfly.

As a junior (2013-14)… NCAA Division II Academic Achievement Award winner… Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll… Competed in 10 meets during the season… Earned one individual win and one relay win during the season… Won the 100-butterfly at Saint Leo (Oct. 25) and was part of the winning 200-medley relay team at Rollins (Nov. 22)… Florida Southern’s top swimmer in the 100-butterfly at the Sunshine State Conference Championships for the second year in a row, and the 200-butterfly for the third straight year (first Moccasin to be the team’s best swimmer in a conference championship event three straight seasons)… Reached an NCAA “B” qualifying time in the 100-butterfly at the SSC Championships.

As a sophomore (2012-13)… All-American in the 400-medley relay (7th place)… Honorable Mention All-American in the 200-medley relay (10th place)… CSCAA Scholar All-America First Team… NCAA Division II Academic Achievement Award winner… SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll… Assisted Florida Southern’s 200-medley and 400-medley relay teams as they each won the SSC Championship… Picked up three individual wins during the season, two of them in the 100-butterfly, and one in the 200-butterfly… As a member of the 200-medley relay team, helped the Moccasins win six times during the season… One of those 200-medley relay wins came at the Nova Southeastern Invitational (Dec. 16), and another came in the SSC Championships… 200-medley relay team won five of its final six regular season races, and the SSC Championships, going into the Division II National Finals, with its only second-place finish coming to the NJCAA National Championship relay team from Indian River State (Jan. 12)… Helped the Florida Southern 400-medley relay team win twice… Florida Southern’s best swimmer at the SSC Championships in both the 100- and 200-butterfly… Had the Moccasins’ top season time in both events at the conference meet (58.05 in the 100-butterfly, and 2:09.69 in the 200-butterfly).

As a freshman (2011-12)... CSCAA Scholar Honorable Mention All-American… SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll… Had team’s best 200-butterfly time (2:09.31) in the prelims at the SSC Championships, setting a new school record she still holds... Third on the season times list in the 50-backstroke with a 29.43 at the Nova Southeastern Invitational, and was second on the season times list in the 100-backstroke (58:26) in the prelims of the SSC Championships… Swam a season-best time of 56.88 in the prelims of the 100-butterfly at the SSC Championships, which was the second-best time on the team… Was part of FSC's 200-medley relay team that swam a time of 1:49.37 at the SSC Championships.

In high school… 2011 graduate of The Baylor School in Chattanooga… Member of four straight state championship teams… Placed 12th in the 100-butterfly in state meet as a senior… Placed 11th in the 100-butterfly, and 12th in the 100-backstroke in state meet as a junior… Finished 8th in the 100-backstroke and 10th in the 100-butterfly in state meet as a sophomore… As a freshman, placed 16th in the 100-backstroke at state meet… Served on student academic council… Member of French club… Participated in Habitat for Humanity… Member of the Baylor Swim Club for seven years… Personal… Daughter of Bert and Laura Carden… Has one older brother (Nick)… Born January 17, 1993… Major: Criminology with minors in Psychology and Business.
