Betsy Harris has been the head coach of the Florida Southern women’s basketball program since 2014, leading the Moccasins to six-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight in just her second year, and back-to-back Sunshine State Conference regular-season and tournament titles. Under her leadership, the Mocs picked up 11 all-Sunshine State Conference honors, including a pair of SSC Player of the Year awards.

In her time at the helm of the program, the Moccasins have posted an overall record of 159-63, including a 99-31 against conference foes. Harris’ 2018-19 squad set a school record for most wins in a season (30), and the Moccasins have produced two of the top 10 scorers in school history under her watch in Camille Giardina (3^rd – 1,929 pts) and Anja Fuchs-Robetin (8^th – 1,677 pts.). Harris has seen her team ascend as high as No. 6 in the WBCA Coaches Poll, and the Moccasins earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA South Regional during the 2018-19 campaign.

Overall, Harris has a record of 227-90 as a head coach, having claimed her 200th victory with a 56-51 road win over No. 14 Tampa, on February 26, 2020. 

Known for their lockdown defensive efforts and high-powered offense, Harris’ Florida Southern squads have ranked among the top 50 nationally in scoring defense three times and the top 50 in scoring offense twice during her five seasons at the helm. In 2020-21, Florida Southern ranked 25th in the country in turnover margin, at +5.03. Offensively, in 2018-19, the Moccasins ranked 18^th nationally in scoring offense, averaging 77.2 points per game. Off the court, Harris' teams regularly participate in community outreach programs at Brookdale Oakrdige Assisted Living, Habitat for Humanity, Noah's Ark, and Roberts Academy, among others.

Prior to her tenure as the Moccasins' head coach, Harris spent three seasons as a head coach at the College Coastal Georgia, where she led the Mariners to a record of 68-27. She became the first coach in any sport at Coastal Georgia to lead their team to an NAIA National Tournament when her 2012-13 squad earned a berth after a 24-9 campaign. Harris got her start in the coaching ranks as an assistant coach at West Alabama (1999-01), with stops at Troy (2001-02), East Central Community College (2002-03) before returning to UWA (2003-10). She also spent one season at Meridian Community College (2010-11) before being named the head coach at Coastal Georgia.

As a head coach at two institutions, Harris has produced some of the top players in the nation at each stop including five all-Americans, two conference Player of the Year honorees, a conference Freshman of the Year award winner, and 12 all-conference selections. She has also coached two all-region honorees, an NCAA South Region Tournament MVP, 20 SSC Player of the Week honorees, and 12 SSC Defensive Player of the Week selections

A former standout at the University of Alabama (1990-94), Harris led the Crimson Tide to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1994. She was named a second-team all-SEC selection as a senior, earned MVP honors at the NCAA Midwest Regional, and was named to the Final Four all-tournament team.

As a student-athlete at Alabama, Harris set the school's career record for three-point field goals (272), is tied for most three-pointers in a single game (8), and holds the top two single-season marks for three-pointers made. She also ranks seventh in the Crimson Tide record books for career scoring (1,519 points). While at Alabama, Harris was a nominee for the Wade Trophy, given annually to the Division I Player of the Year. She also participated in trials for the U.S. National Team in 1993.

Harris played professionally for four years with teams in Greece, Iceland, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland, and was invited to training camp with the WNBA's Detroit Shock in 1998. A native of Decatur, Miss., Harris was an all-state player at Decatur High School, where she led the Warriors to their first-ever Mississippi Class 2A state title in 1990.

She earned her bachelor's degree in sports management from Alabama in 1995, and her master's degree in teaching from West Alabama in 2001. Harris resides in Lakeland with her rescued dogs, Marley and Sawyer, and her cats, Roadie and Hooper.
