Higginbotham Leads Mocs to Eighth Straight Win

With Danielle Higginbotham recording the 1,000th kill of her career, the 11th-ranked Moccasins topped North Alabama, 26-24, 25-16, 25-23, Saturday at Florence, Ala., to sweep their three weekend regional matches.

The win gives FSC an eight-match winning streak and boosts its record to 20-4.  UNA is 17-8.

Higginbotham's milestone kill came in the third set (FSC's 12th point) and made her the 17th player in FSC history to reach 1,000 career kills. She finished the match with a team-high 14 kills, hit .565 for the match and also had four blocks. She was the only Moccasin in double figures in kills.

Maggie Drumm added eight kills and hit .438 for the match, while Courtney Johnson and Danielle Durham each had 14 digs and Anna Greenwood collected 13 to go with five blocks in the victory.

The Moccasins rallied from a 19-16 deficit to win the first set. A pair of UNA errors with the score tied at 24-24 gave FSC the win. In the third set, the Moccasins led 18-14, but UNA rallied to tie it at 18-18. The teams traded points until a kill by Durham and an ace by Johnson broke a 22-22 tie. After UNA picked up a point, a kill by Durham ended the match.

The Moccasins return to Sunshine State Conference action Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a match at Jenkins Field House against Eckerd. The Tritons handed the Moccasins their only SSC loss this season Sept. 30 at Eckerd in four sets.
