The sixth-ranked Moccasins knocked Lynn out of first place in the Sunshine State Conference Saturday, outlasting the Fighting Knights 22-25, 30-28, 22-25, 25-23, 15-12 at Boca Raton.
With the win, the Moccasins raised their record to 14-4, 4-1 in the SSC. Lynn fell to 12-7 and suffered its first SSC loss in four league matches.
Danielle Higginbotham led a balanced offensive attack that had four players in double figures in kills. She led the team with 17 and hit .375 for the match. Danielle Durham posted another double-double, her 10th of the season and 45th of her career, with 13 kills and 20 digs. Julia Borecka tacked on 11 kills and hit .348 for the match, while Maggie Drumm also had 11 kills and added five blocks.
After dropping the first set, FSC broke a 28-28 tie on kills by Borecka and Higginbotham to even the match. Lynn led all the way in set three to take a 2-1 lead, but two kills by Drumm broke a 23-23 tie in set four to even the match again.
In the fifth set, the Mocs held a 13-12 lead and got a kill from Durham, who then teamed with Drumm on a block for the final point to seal the victory.
The Moccasins take on Saint Leo Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Jenkins Field House. It will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night, with the Moccasins wearing pink jerseys and selling pink t-shirts. Fans also are encouraged to wear pink. All proceeds from tickets sales and t-shirt sales will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
