Mocs Take Regular Finale in Five Sets Over Barry

Moccasin fans got their money's worth in the final regular season home match, as the Moccasins outlasted Barry 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 19-17 Friday night at Jenkins Field House.

The win gives FSC a final regular season record of 25-8, 12-4 in the Sunshine State Conference.  Barry is 15-11, 5-10 in the SSC. If Tampa loses its match at Lynn Saturday, the Moccasins and Spartans will share the SSC title. If Tampa beats Lynn, the Spartans win the title outright.

The Moccasins will have to wait until Sunday night to learn where they are going to be playing in the NCAA South Regional. That's when the NCAA announces its tournament field and regional sites. FSC was ranked first in the South Region rankings that were announced Wednesday, but that was prior to the Moccasins' five-set loss to Saint Leo Wednesday night.

Down two sets to one against Barry, the Moccasins got two kills from Anna Greenwood for their final two points that won set four and forced the deciding fifth set. Down 17-16 in that fifth set, the Moccasins tied it on a kill by Danielle Durham, took the lead on a kill by Greenwood, then Kelly Sherman and Maggie Drumm blocked Camilla Pagnan's bid for her 24th kill to clinch the match.

The Moccasins had five players in double figures in kills, led by Danielle Higginbotham with 20. Julia Borecka had 14 kills, while Durham, with a 13-kill, 22-dig effort, posted her 50th career double-double and 15th this season. Greenwood and Drumm each tallied 11 kills.
