Thompson's Double-Double Leads Mocs Past Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH - A sparkling performance by John Thompson off the bench led the Moccasins to an 89-67 road win at Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday. The win snapped the Moccasins' three-game losing streak and improved their record to 7-4. Palm Beach Atlantic slipped to 5-6.

In 22 minutes of playing time, Thompson scored a team-high 20 points and also led the team with 11 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season. He was 7-8 from the field and 6-9 from the free throw line before fouling out with 1:29 to go.

Rob Eldridge and Braxton Williams each added 14 points and Preston Fredrick tossed in 12 points in his first start of the season. Eldridge reached a career milestone with 3:34 left in the game when he sank a free throw to reach 1,000 points in his Florida Southern career. He is the 32nd player in FSC history to score at least 1,000 points in a career.

Sixteen of Thompson's points came in the first half, as the Moccasins broke a 23-23 tie at the 9:36 mark, outscoring the Sailfish 26-9 the rest of the half to take a 49-32 lead at halftime. Thompson scored 10 of FSC's 26 points during that stretch. PBA never got closer than nine points in the second half.

The Moccasins shot 54 percent from the field in the game and held PBA to just 40 percent. FSC was 9-19 on three-pointers, 12-19 from the free throw line and out-rebounded the Sailfish 46-25.

Monday night at 7:30 the Moccasins take on Florida Memorial at Jenkins Field House in their final game before the Christmas holiday break. The game will be broadcast live on Sports Line Radio Network (SLRN) with air time set for 7:15 p.m.
