Box Score WINTER PARK - In a game that had 18 ties and 16 lead changes, Rollins outlasted the Moccasins 91-87 in overtime Saturday at Winter Park in the Sunshine State Conference opener for both teams. The Tars scored their final seven points from the free throw line to improve to 7-0, while the Moccasins suffered their first defeat in seven games.
The Mocs were up 81-79 and had the ball with less than a minute remaining in regulation, but turned it over with 42 seconds left.
Rollins' Paris Moore hit a jumper with 34 seconds left to tie the game at 81-81. FSC had a chance at the final shot, but Chelsea Johnson's layup attempt was blocked by Brittainy Daiger to send the game into overtime.
The Moccasins led by as many as six in the extra session, but didn't score in the final 2:32. Rollins took the lead on the second of two free throws by Kourtnie Berry with 32 seconds remaining. Moore then made three free throws in the final five seconds to clinch the win. After she made one of two with four seconds left, the Moccasins had a chance for a final shot, but Tanja Speaker was called for an offensive foul with just under two seconds to go and Moore added two more free throws for the final margin.
FSC's halftime lead was 41-39 and the game was tied at 81-81 at the end of regulation. Neither team had a lead of double digits throughout the contest.
Michaela Hawley, after scoring just two points in the first half, poured in 19 second-half points and added three more in overtime to finish with a game-high 24 for the Moccasins. Chelsea Johnson had 15 points in the first half, but scored just four the rest of the game to finish with 19. Nicolle DiRaimo tallied a season-high 17 points and added a game-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Jessica Pressley led Rollins with 17 points.
The Moccasins are idle until Saturday when they face West Florida at 2 p.m. in Jenkins Field House.
