Mocs Win Them All in Victory Over Florida A&M

Kelly Ruf and Caroline Kennon each won two events and were part of winning relay teams, and Melinda Opgrand also earned a pair of individual wins as Florida Southern beat Florida A&M, 121-16, in its final home appearance of the season.

The Moccasins won all 11 events Saturday, which included victories by Ruf in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Her first win came in 25 seconds to break her own team record set in October. Both wins came just ahead of teammate Ashley deVries. The freshman then helped the Mocs close things out in the 400-yard freestyle relay, along with Malinda Turner, Kaitlyn Smith and deVries.

Kennon, who was swimming the final home match of her career, helped get things started as part of the 400-yard medley relay team, then won both the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke. Opgrand got her wins in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events.

Kaitlyn Smith was the top women's swimmer in the 1650 freestyle, Kelsey Duncan was the same for the 400-yard IM, and senior Kara Schulkers won the 100-yard backstroke.

Florida Southern's next dual meet will be on Saturday, January 31 at Rollins.
