SAINT LEO - Senior guard Alli Fogle celebrated her 22nd birthday by scoring a career-high 20 points to help the Moccasins down Saint Leo 83-75 Wednesday night at Saint Leo.
Fogle hit five three-pointers, grabbed eight rebounds, delivered four assists and had three steals, as the Moccasins recovered from a Saint Leo surge early in the second half to improve their record to 10-2, 2-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. Her previous scoring high had been 15 points once this season and twice last season. She also had plenty of scoring help against the Lions, as Chelsea Johnson poured in a season-high 28 points and Michaela Hawley added 19.
The Moccasins led 38-31 at halftime, but watched Saint Leo open the second half with a 17-2 run that put the Lions up 48-40 with 16:48 remaining. It was Fogle's three-pointer a little over eight minutes later that put the Moccasins back in front, 64-63, and they were able to keep the Lions at bay the rest of the game.
Johnson also hit five three-pointers en route to her 28-point effort that included seven of eight from the free throw line. She and Fogle combined for 32 points in the second half, with Johnson scoring 20 and Fogle 12. Hawley and Nicolle DiRaimo each collected eight rebounds to go with Fogle's eight.
Saturday the Moccasins will get some live TV exposure, as their SSC game at 15th-ranked Barry will be televised live by CBS College Sports Network (formerly CSTV) beginning at 1 p.m. In the Lakeland area, Bright House Networks cable customers will be able to watch the game on Channel 139 and Channel 807. The game also will be video streamed on the Internet at www.NCAA.com.
