Newcomers Liz Broadley and Cara Potter led the Lady Mocs' effort in their season-opening meet against Tampa Saturday at the Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
Broadley, a freshman, won the 500-yard (5:19.22) and 1000-yard (10:57.48) freestyle events and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle. Potter, a transfer from junior college powerhouse Indian River, set school records in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events. Her second-place time of 24.92 in the 50 freestyle broke the record of 25.12 set last year by Kelly Ruf. Potter turned in a second-place time of 55.62 in the 100-yard freestyle to break Ruf's previous mark of 55.66.
Tampa won the women's meet 158-101.
In addition to the wins by Broadley, the Moccasins had individual event wins from Rae-Lynn Sheffield in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.43) and Missy Witt in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.25).
They also set a pair of records in the relay events. The team of Anna McIntyre, Sheffield, Maria Salvoch and Potter set the 200-yard medley relay record with a time of 1:53.05, topping the previous mark of 1:53.69 set in 2006. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Potter, McIntyre, Sheffield and Salvoch finished in a second-place time of 1:42.22 to break the previous mark of 1:42.49 set in 2006, as Tampa swam the event as an exhibition.
The Moccasins' next meet is Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. at the Hollis Wellness Center Pool against Saint Leo.ÂÂ
