Box Score The Moccasins battled first-place Saint Leo even through four sets, but the 16th-ranked Lions took control in the fifth set and posted a 25-20, 26-28, 23-25, 25-14, 15-9 Sunshine State Conference win Tuesday night at Saint Leo.
With the win, the Lions remain in first place with a record of 16-2 overall, 7-0 in the SSC. The Moccasins suffered their fourth straight loss and fell to 10-8, 3-4 in the SSC.
Julia Borecka led FSC with 21 kills and 15 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Anne Pietkiewicz also collected her seventh double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs, while Natalie Arvizu added 10 kills and Anna Niebuhr posted a career-high 26 digs from her libero position.
Saint Leo's Bruna Rocha, named the AVCA Division II Player of the Week after 21 kills and no errors in a win over Tampa Saturday, led the Lions with 21 kills, 22 digs and a .395 hitting percentage.
The Moccasins were up two sets to one, but Saint Leo made sure the match went to the deciding fifth set with a 25-14 win in the fourth set, leading from start to finish.
FSC grabbed an early 3-1 lead in the fifth set, but the Lions took it back with three straight points and led the rest of the way.
Friday the Moccasins play Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m. at Jenkins Field House.
