SAINT LEO - Led by Chelsea Johnson's 22 points, the Moccasins cruised past Puerto Rico-Bayamon 81-59 Friday night at the Sleep Inn Classic at Saint Leo.
Johnson scored the Moccasins' first 10 points and had 20 at halftime, as the Moccasins built a 45-30 advantage. She was 8-9 from the field and hit all four of her three pointers.
The Moccasins (2-1) didn't pull away until midway through the first half, when they went from a 23-22 lead with 10:30 left in the period to a 43-28 margin at the 2:59 mark. Megan Dzikas hit a three-pointer for the Moccasins' first basket in the second half and the lead was never less than 18 points the rest of the game.
Dzikas was the only other Moccasin to score in double figures, as she had 11. All 13 players saw at least six minutes of game action. Danielle Walsh and Deneen Bell shared the rebounding lead with seven each.
The Moccasins play Georgia Southwestern Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Sleep Inn Classic, then get a second meeting with Puerto Rico-Bayamon Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Jenkins Field House in their home opener.
