Johnson Hits For 30 As Lady Mocs Down Lynn

LAKELAND - Hitting nine of 10 free throws, six by Chelsea Johnson, in the final 53 seconds, the Moccasins held off Lynn for an 87-77 Sunshine State Conference win at Jenkins Field House Saturday night.

The Moccasins had led by as many as 15, 68-53, with 8:06 remaining before Lynn began its comeback. Crystal Ahmed hit a pair of free throws with 54 seconds left to trim the Moccasins' lead to 78-75, but Johnson then showed why she leads the SSC in free throw percentage, as she dropped in six straight to get the lead back up to seven. Nicole DiRaimo added two more free throws and Alli Fogle had one to allow the Moccasins to remain unbeaten in seven SSC homes games this season. The win also allowed them to move into a tie for third place with Eckerd at 8-6 in the league.

Johnson finished the game with 30 points, marking the third straight game in which FSC has had a 30-point scorer. Alli Fogle had 30 last Saturday at Flagler and Megan Dzikas scored 30 Wednesday night at Eckerd. Michaela Hawley scored 20 points and Dzikas added 19 in the win.

The Moccasins also established a new single-season record for three-point field goals made. They connected on 11 in the game, giving them 113 for the season and surpassing the mark of 204 set last season.

Wednesday night at 5:30 the Moccasins play their final regular season road game at Tampa.
