Lady Mocs' Defense Prevails in Home Win Over Barry

LAKELAND - The Moccasins turned in their best defensive effort of the season Saturday night, downing Barry 54-44 at Jenkins Field House.

Barry's 44 points are the fewest scored by a Moccasin opponent this season and the Buccaneers shot just 29 percent from the field, going 0-11 from three-point range.

The win boosted the Moccasins' record to 15-6 overall, matching their win total of last season, and 6-5 in the Sunshine State Conference. Barry fell to 14-8, 5-6 in the SSC.

Emer Foley's layup with 15:40 left in the first half put the Moccasins ahead to stay and they went on to build a 28-15 advantage at halftime. Barry got as close as six points in the second half, 38-32 with 7:24 remaining, but back-to-back baskets by Chelsea Johnson got the lead back up to double digits and Barry could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Foley led the Moccasins with 19 points, while Johnson added 14 and Megan Dzikas tossed in 10.

The Moccasins play Saint Leo Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Jenkins Field House.
