LAKELAND - Devin Peirce scored three goals and Jon Freda had two goals and two assists to lead Florida Southern to a 9-2 win over Salem State on Saturday.
Peirce scored less than a minute into the game and Seabrooke Carter scored later in the first quarter to give the Moccasins (3-2) a 2-0 lead. Salem State scored after that to cut it to 2-1, but the Mocs would score seven unanswered goals after that.
Peirce picked up his second and third goals of the day in the third quarter, both assisted by Freda, who also scored in the period. That accounted for all of the Mocs' scoring the third after they had led 4-1 at halftime.
Florida Southern will play again on Monday at 7:00 p.m. against Medaille (NY).
