6 Goals for Papagikos, 7 Points for Brown as Mocs Beat Medaille 18-9

LAKELAND - Nick Papagikos scored six goals Monday night, and Justin Brown had two goals and five assists to lead Florida Southern to an 18-9 win over Medaille (NY).

The Moccasins (4-2) ran their winning streak to four games even after again falling behind 2-0. The Mavericks (0-2) got two quick goals from Dave Bennett before Papagikos scored three times before the end of the first quarter to give the Mocs a 4-2 lead.

The two teams swapped goals early in the second quarter, leaving Florida Southern with a 5-3 lead but the Mocs ran off six consecutive goals after that to blow the game wide open. Brown scored two of those goals and assisted two others, while Devin Peirce also scored twice during that run.

Medaille broke the string late in the third, cutting the gap to 11-4, but the Mocs went on another run of six in a row after that. Papagikos scored the first two and Stefan Nippert's man-up goal at the 10:48 mark of the fourth quarter gave the Moccasins a 10-goal lead. The Mavericks evetually scored two goals in the final 2:18 of the match to close out the scoring for the night.

Florida Southern will play two more games this week, both against nationally ranked opponents at Bryant Stadium. The first of those is Wednesday night at 7:00 against Limestone (SC).
