SAVANNAH, GA - Georgia College used a goal by Jamie Nevin in the 8th minute to take a 1-0 lead and hold on for the one-goal victory over Florida Southern at the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirate Shootout on Sunday.
In a battle of NCAA Tournament teams from last year, the Moccasins (0-2) outshot the Bobcats, 15-7, including a 9-2 edge in the second half. The Mocs had a chance to tie the game in the final two minutes with a corner kick, but a shot by Emily Griffith hit the crossbar and another shot by Alex Hoover went high. That allowed the Bobcats (2-0)Â to escape for their 15th shutout since the start of the 2008 season.
Jessica Binkowski made four saves for her second shutout of the weekend after blanking Queens (NC) 2-0 on Saturday.
Florida Southern will be on the road next weekend as well, traveling to New England to face Franklin Pierce (NH) on Friday, and Massachusetts-Lowell on Sunday.
