Box Score In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, #19 West Florida outlasted the #11 Moccasins, 21-25, 25-21, 14-25, 25-16, 21-19, Saturday at the South Region Crossover in Pensacola.
The loss drops the Moccasins' record to 7-4, while West Florida improves to 6-7.
After the two teams split the first four sets, the Moccasins had an 11-7 lead in the deciding fifth set, only to have West Florida rally to tie it at 11-11. FSC went ahead 13-11 and was two points away from the win, but West Florida again rallied to tie it. The two teams alternated points, until the Moccasins went up 19-18 on a West Florida attack error. However, back-to-back attack errors by the Mocs gave the lead back to West Florida at 20-19, then the Argonauts' Valissia Brathwaite delivered a kill for the final point.
Julia Borecka, one of four Moccasins in double figures in kills, led the team with 15 and added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season. She was FSC's representative on the All-Tournament Team.
Anna Greenwood had 14 kills and hit .345 for the match, while Lauren Huber picked up 12 kills, and Anne Pietkiewicz tallied 10 kills and 14 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Courtney Johnson recorded a team-high 15 digs and Elise Burke produced 49 assists.
The Moccasins open Sunshine State Conference action Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Jenkins Field House against Florida Tech.
