On the Road Again, Mocs Fall to Nova SE 3-0

DAVIE â€" Aly Hassan scored once in each half, and Darryl Gordon added a goal and an assist as Nova Southeastern defeated Florida Southern, 3-0, on Wednesday night.

The Moccasins (1-6, 1-2 Sunshine State Conference) tested Nova with two early shots and two early corner kicks, but the Sharks (6-4, 1-2) stopped all of them and got on the scoreboard in the 19th minute when Hassan scored his fourth goal of the season. It was set up by Gordon, who put the ball over the Moccasin defense to allow Hassan to go 1-on-1 with goalkeeper Paul DiPalma.

DiPalma would later stop shots by Hassan and David Wahlberg in the 30th minute, and denied Hassan again in the 32nd. That kept the score 1-0 at halftime.

It didn’t take Hassan long in the second half to change the score, as the junior forward connected on an 18-yard shot to put Nova up 2-0 in the 52nd minute. Nine minutes later, Gordon finished the scoring with his third goal of the season.

Nova Southeastern out-shot Florida Southern 17-8, with DiPalma making six saves for the Moccasins.

Florida Southern returns home for its next match, when it hosts Barry University on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
