Box Score Fourth-ranked Tampa maintained its share of the Sunshine State Conference lead with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-18 win over the 17th-ranked Moccasins Wednesday night at Tampa.
The win was Tampa's ninth straight and improved the Spartans' record to 14-1, 5-0 in the SSC, while the Moccasins suffered their second straight loss and fell to 10-6, 3-2 in the SSC.
Tampa never trailed in winning the first two sets. The Moccasins had their only lead of the match at 13-12 in the third set. After a Julia Borecka kill tied it at 14-14, the Spartans reeled off six straight points and went on to close out the match.
Kelly Sherman led FSC with eight kills and hit .438 for the match.
Tampa was led by Melissa Vanderhall, who had 15 kills and hit .520 for the match. The Spartans hit .415 as a team for the match, while the Moccasins hit just .115.
Wednesday night's match was the first of three straight against nationally-ranked teams for the Moccasins. Saturday they take on No. 25 Eckerd at 7 p.m. at Jenkins Field House, then Tuesday they go to No. 23 Saint Leo for a 7 p.m. match.
