LAKELAND - The Moccasins scored the first nine points of the game and never trailed en route to a 76-58 Sunshine State Conference win over Lynn here Saturday night at Jenkins Field House.
Lynn didn't score for the first 4:36 of the game and by that time the Moccasins' lead was too much to overcome. The Knights never got closer than five points and trailed by 10 at halftime, 35-25. The Moccasins scored the first five points in the second half and never had a lead of less than eight points the rest of the game.
Megan Dzikas led a balanced FSC scoring attack with 22 points, including four three-pointers. Michaela Hawley scored 16 points, Chelsea Johnson added 14 and Nicolle DiRaimo tossed in 10. Hawley and DiRaimo each had eight rebounds, as the Moccasins (14-2, 5-1 SSC) enjoyed a 47-39 advantage on the boards. From the free throw line the Moccasins were almost perfect, hitting 22 of 24.
Quanisha Dixon led Lynn (10-4, 2-3 SSC) with a 25-point effort off the bench.
The Moccasins' win, coupled with Tampa's 60-53 win over Rollins, sets up a showdown for first place in the SSC Wednesday night at 5:30 at Jenkins Field House, as the Moccasins and Spartans have identical 5-1 conference records. The game will broadcast live on the internet on SportsLine Radio Network (SLRN).
