LAKELAND - A 19-6 run in the final six minutes of the first half helped the Moccasins pull away for what proved to be an easy 86-50 home win over Palm Beach Atlantic here Saturday night at Jenkins Field House.
The win boosted the Moccasins' record to 15-3, while PBA fell to 5-13.
With 6:29 left in the first half, the Moccasins were up only by two, 22-20, but by the end of the first half their lead was 41-26. Another spurt at the start of the second half got the lead to 20 points and it continued to grow. The Moccasins' biggest lead was 39, 82-43, with 3:50 left in the game.
Everybody on the Moccasin roster played at least four minutes in the game. Nicolle DiRaimo and Megan Dzikas led the starters with 14 points each and Krystian Thompson came off the bench to record her season scoring high with 14 points. Chelsea Johnson and Michaela Hawley each added 10 points.
DiRaimo and Hawley each notched a double-double, as DiRaimo pulled down 12 rebounds and Hawley grabbed 10. For DiRaimo, it was her fourth double-double of the season and for Hawley, it was her third.
The Mocs outrebounded PBA 50-37 and forced 28 turnovers in the game.
The Moccasins return to Sunshine State Conference action Wednesday night with a 5:30 p.m. game at Nova Southeastern. The game will be broadcast live on SportsLine Radio Network (SLRN).
