Rollins' Strong Second Half Halts Lady Mocs' Win Streak

Box Score

WINTER PARK - An 18-5 spurt in the first 4:32 of the second half powered Rollins to a 73-58 win over the Lady Mocs Saturday at Rollins.

The loss snapped the Moccasins' 12-game winning streak and dropped their record to 12-2, 3-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. Rollins improved to 9-4, 2-1 in the SSC.

After Rollins led most of the first half, although never by more than seven, two baskets by Michaela Hawley in the final two minutes of the first half had allowed the Moccasins to pull even, 35-35, at halftime. Chelsea Johnson put her name next to another record in the first half, as she became the Moccasins' career leader in three-point field goals made with a three-pointer at the 13:37 mark. It was the 181st of her career, surpassing the previous mark of 180 set by Brook Kohlheim (2002-05).

The Tars were able to capitalize on five Moccasin turnovers during their early second half spurt, building a 53-40 lead with 15:28 remaining. The Mocs never got closer than 11 points the rest of the game.

Hawley and Johnson each scored 20 points, but no other Moccasins were in double figures, as they shot a season-low 31.8 percent from the field.

Rollins was led by Brittainy Daiger's 14 points and got a double-double from Amber Heistan, who had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Moccasins play Wednesday night at 5:30 at Saint Leo. The game will be broadcast live on the internet on SportsLine Radio Network (SLRN).
