Box Score Diana Castrillon and Lauren Huber combined for 19 kills to lead the Moccasins past first-place Barry in three sets, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18, in their Sunshine State Conference match at Jenkins Field House Friday night.
Castrillon had a team-high 10 kills, no attack errors and hit .476 for the match. Huber added nine kills and hit .412 for the match.
The win improved the Moccasins' record to 10-4 overall, 3-2 in the SSC, while Barry, ranked 25th this week in the AVCA Division II Coaches Poll, dropped to 7-2 overall, 4-1 in the SSC.
In set one, FSC broke a 10-10 tie on a kill by Erin Callahan and led the rest of the way, closing out the set on a kill by Huber. In set two, a kill by Anne Pietkiewicz broke a 19-19 tie and the Moccasins scored five straight points to go up 2-0. In the third set, FSC trailed 18-15, then rallied to score the final 10 points of the match, three of them coming on kills by Natalie Arvizu.
Julia Teixeira led Barry with 15 kills, but the Buccaneers hit just .156 for the match. FSC hit .271.
The Moccasins play Nova Southeastern Saturday at 4 p.m. at Jenkins Field House. Florida Southern will provide a live video stream of the contest.
