Mocs Fall to Lynn In Three On The Road

Lynn sandwiched a pair of two-point set wins around a 10-point win and downed the Moccasins in three sets, 25-23, 25-15, 25-23, Saturday at Boca Raton.

The loss dropped the Moccasins into a tie for third with Lynn in the Sunshine State Conference. Both teams are 7-3. Overall, the Mocs slipped to 17-6 and Lynn improved to 16-7 on the year.

Ashley Martin had 12 kills and hit .346 for the match, but she was the only Moccasin to reach double figures in kills. Diana Castrillon had nine, Erin Callahan added a season-high eight and Lauren Huber picked up seven. Anna Niebuhr had a team-high 20 digs, while Ali Skayhan had 10 digs and 20 assists.

Mallory Deneen led Lynn with 13 kills and hit .500 for the match.

As a team Lynn hit .304 and FSC hit .231.

The Moccasins had an early five-point lead in the first set at 10-5, but Lynn scored five straight points to pull even at 10-10.  The Moccasins then rallied from a 21-16 deficit to tie the set at 22-22, only to have Lynn score three of the final four points to take the set.

In the second set Lynn broke an 8-8 tie and led the rest of the set. In the third set Lynn broke a 20-20 tie on a kill by Kala Abdell, went up 23-20 and saw the Moccasins close the margin to 24-23 on Huber's kill before Deneen's kill wrapped up the match.

The Moccasins play their next two matches at home - Friday at 7 p.m. against Saint Leo and Saturday at 7 p.m. against first-place Tampa. Saturday night's match has been designated as a "Dig Pink" night in support of breast cancer awareness.
