It was one of those "everybody who suits up gets to play" nights for the Moccasins, as they breezed past Puerto Rico-Bayamon, 78-56, in their home opener Tuesday night at Jenkins Field House and improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Moccasins scored the first six points of the game and never trailed in the contest. They led 39-26 at halftime, built the lead to 36, at 72-36, with 8:16 left in the game and had the reserves on the floor for much of the second half.
All 14 players in uniform saw at least seven minutes of playing time and all but one player scored. Michaela Hawley led the Moccasin scoring with 13 points in 17 minutes. Sofie Lundberg came off the bench and scored 12 in 17 minutes. Emma Cannon had 10 points, all in the first half, and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in her 17-minute stint.
UPR-Bayamon had three players score 11 points each - Keisha Bachour, Katiria Rodriguez and Katia Acevedo. Yoy Ling Del Rosario captured a game-high 13 rebounds.
After the Thanksgiving holiday the Moccasins will play in the Eckerd Classic Friday and Saturday at St. Petersburg. Friday they'll take on 13th-ranked Clayton State (5-0) and Saturday they'll have a re-match with Puerto Rico-Bayamon. Both games will be at 1 p.m.
