Huber's Career-High 19 Kills Leads Mocs Past Sharks

Box Score

Led by a career-high 19 kills from Lauren Huber, the Moccasins downed Nova Southeastern in five sets, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-27, 15-9, Friday night at Ft. Lauderdale.

The win raised the Moccasins' record to 19-7 overall, 9-4 in the Sunshine State Conference, while Nova dropped to 8-16, 3-10 in the SSC.

After the two teams split the first four sets, the Moccasins added to an 8-6 advantage in the deciding fifth set with back-to-back kills from Anne Pietkiewicz and Ashley Martin, coupled with a pair of Nova errors to build a 12-6 margin. Fittingly, Huber's 19th kill finished the set and gave her a .531 hitting percentage for the match. Ironically, her previous career-high in kills - 18 - had come in the Moccasins' five-set win over the Sharks back on Oct. 2 in Lakeland.

Bolstering Huber's performance was a 12-kill, 15-dig effort from Pietkiewicz, her fifth double-double of the season and 15th of her career. Martin added 11 kills and five blocks and Anna Niebuhr delivered 26 digs.

Rachel Woodson led the Sharks with 23 kills.

The Moccasins will try for a sweep of their weekend road trip when they play at Barry Saturday at 4 p.m.
