The Moccasins used a 5-0 first half lead to help lift them to an 8-5 victory over Pace University on a rainy Friday afternoon at Tampa's Jesuit High School. With the win, the Mocs improve their record to 2-4 and snapped a four game losing streak. Pace’s record drops to 1-1.ÂÂ
The Mocs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Jon Freda with 8:03 left in the opening period. Cam Holding and Corey Brown each added a goal giving the Mocs a 3-0 lead after first period.
Holding scored his second goal of the game three minutes into the second quarter. The Mocs took a 5-0 lead after a shot Brian Rossetti found the back of the net. The Mocs outshot the Setters 19-10 in the first half.ÂÂ
The second half began with the Mocs and Setters trading goals. Pace went on to score four goals in a row cutting the lead to 6-5 with 9:12 left in the fourth quarter. The Moccasins picked up two goals in the final minutes for the final 8-5 score.
Brown, Holding and Rossetti each finished with a pair of goals. FSC Goalie Andrew Almansberger had 14 saves in the contest.ÂÂ
The Mocs won the ground ball battle 34-26. A.J. Monteleone led the team with six ground balls.
The Moccasins return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Bryant Stadium when they take on Deep South Conference rival Catawba.
