Mocs' Bid For Three-Peat Stopped By Barry

DAVIE - The Moccasins' bid for a third straight Sunshine State Conference Tournament championship was halted by a red-hot Barry club, 79-61, Saturday in the SSC Tournament semifinals here at Nova Southeastern.

Barry (19-10) scored the game's first eight points and led for the entire 40 minutes. The Buccaneers were up 36-28 at halftime and the Moccasins never got any closer in the second half. Barry enjoyed its biggest lead, 68-47, with 6:36 left in the game.

After shooting 57.1 percent from the field in the first half, the Buccaneers shot 63.2% in the second half and finished the game shooting 59.6 percent. The Mocs shot 41.8 percent from the field for the game.

SSC Player of the Year John Thompson was the only Moccasin to score in double figures, as he finished with 12 points. Barry was led by Tony Dennison, who had 22. Zack Trapp scored 23, Erick Nsangou had 12 and Willie Whitfield added 11.

Barry advances to the SSC Tournament championship game Sunday against Rollins.

The Mocs (25-4) must wait until Sunday night to learn where they will go for the NCAA South Regional. The NCAA will announce its selections for the Division II Men's Tournament at 9:30 p.m. (ET) Sunday and the selection announcement can be viewed at www.NCAA.com.
